| Falmouth Bowling Club In Our Centenary Year - 2008 |
|
|
Falmouth Bowling Club (FBC) celebrated its Centenary in 2008 having been founded in 1908 on the present site in Tregenver Road. At that time the address was Dracaena Avenue as there was a gate and path into the property from there. In 1972 the Docks Bowling Club joined with FBC when their green was sold for development.
At this time the Club was for men only but over the years the ladies started to bowl – on specified rinks only - rather than just make the tea. Now there is full unification – the Mens and Ladies Presidents alternate annually as Club President and the Mens and Ladies Captains as Club Captain. |

Over the years many changes and improvements have been made to the building, the grounds and the green. In 2000 the grass green made way for an artificial surface enabling year-round bowling. Players enjoy friendly inter-club and tourist matches, Divisional, County and National competitions. There are summer and winter leagues for both men and ladies, and games for those who have just started or who no longer wish to take part in the more competitive matches. Weather permitting there is also a friendly bowls drive on Boxing Day! |

Club membership fluctuates between 80 and 100 – usually a few more men than ladies. In addition to Full Membership there are a large number of Social Members who can enjoy the benefits of the Club for a very reasonable fee. The Club caters for all ages from teenagers to 99 years. There is a good social life with quizzes, carpet bowls and whist drives in the winter, coffee mornings and a 50/50 Club. The excellent facilities include a function room, bar, bar lounge and kitchen and are increasingly used by the community for parties, concerts, meetings etc. Car parking is available. |

| Over the years many local charities have been helped in some way as a result of the hard work and generosity of members and their friends. |
